Selected projects The following is an abridged list of work Smith was partly responsible for as a partner at SOM: Burj Khalifa The Burj Khalifa, in Dubai is the holder of the title of World’s Tallest Building. 
He is a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council. Smith's work at SOM has been featured in museums in the United States, South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He was the recipient of the CTBUH 2011 Lynn S. Adrian Smith (architect) 2 Recognition Projects Smith designed have won 5 international awards, 8 National AIA awards, 22 Chicago AIA awards, and 2 ULI Awards for Excellence. Because of the long design cycle for major projects, he has continued to win awards and recognition for work he did during his long stint at SOM. He then left to co-found Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. Career Smith worked on numerous projects at SOM from 1967–2006.
He finished his education at the University of Illinois, Chicago and graduated in 1969. However he did not graduate, and instead left A&M to work at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) in 1967. Smith (born August 19, 1944) is an American architect who has designed skyscrapers including the Burj Khalifa, Jin Mao Tower and Trump International Hotel and Tower, as well as the proposed 1000 m (unknown operator: u'strong' ft) Kingdom Tower for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan Tower which would rise to about 1,050 m (3,445 ft) with 189 floors for Baku, Azerbaijan Education Smith attended Texas A&M University, pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture while being involved with the Corps of Cadets.
